Final True Colors Cabaret To Feature Foster and McIntyre -

Tony Award winner Sutton Foster and Joey McIntyre will headline the final True Colors Cabaret Feb. 22 at Feinstein's at Loews Regency.
Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek) and New Kids On the Block veteran McIntyre (also of the musical Happy Days) will perform the 8 PM and 10 PM benefit concerts that are a co-presentation between Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Fund and Broadway Impact, which was co-founded by Gavin Creel.
The monthly cabaret began in September and has welcomed such guests as Lauper, Creel, Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, Rufus Wainwright, Karen Olivo and the Broadway Inspirational Voices.
According to Broadway Impact, pre-sale tickets for the concert begin Jan. 27. (Use code Cabaret10.)

Hey everybody, I just read on my web site about my vocal problems. Let me explain and apologize for the misinformation. I had a soft polyp. I am in recovery and have been in vocal silience. This happens now and again in my feild. Irronically it came from speaking not singing. The polyp has reduced and become softer, although I am learning how to speak differently so this never happens again. And yes the doctor recomended I stay quiet for a while till I learn how to speak without loosing my voice. Thank u. Xxx Cyn
I just tweeter something. A soft polyp isn't as serious if you stop and change what you were doing to develope the problem. I will be fine. It sounds worse than it is. It just required a rest and regrouping. In a month I will be singing better than ever. Everything happens for a reason. So don't be alarmed. I'll be fine. Xx Cyn

Cyndi Lauper Cancels Concerts Because Of Vocal Polyps -

Cyndi Lauper confirmed on her website Thursday night that she has polyps on the vocal cords and has been told by her doctors to rest her voice.
The polyps caused her to withdraw from her next scheduled appearance, the Boogie Ball at the Ameristar Casino on Feb. 12, Kevin C. Johnson reported at stltoday.com/blender. Rick Springfield will replace Lauper at the Boogie Ball, a fundraiser for the American Liver.
Lauper also withdrew from a concert scheduled for Feb. 13 at the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City. She is not scheduled to perform again until April 9 and 10.
"It is not uncommon for singers to develop these types of voice disorders ... No need to worry," was posted on her website.
Lauper suffered damage to her vocal cords in 1977, just as she was starting to sing professionally. She said three doctors told her that she would not be able to sing again, sing again. She sought out vocal coach Katie Agresta, who taught Lauper vocal exercises that enabled her to strengthen her throat and resume her career.
"Polyps can take a number of forms," according to the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. "They are sometimes caused by vocal abuse. Polyps appear on either one or both of the vocal cords."
According to the Merck Manuals, world's best-selling medical textbook, "Acute trauma or chronic irritation causes changes in the vocal cords that can lead to polyps or nodules. Both cause hoarseness and a breathy voice. Persistence of these symptoms for more than three weeks dictates visualization of the vocal cords. Diagnosis is based on laryngoscopy and on biopsy to rule out cancer. Surgical removal restores the voice, and removal of the irritating source prevents recurrence."

1980's Rock Music Photography Exhibit featured At Gibson’s Gallery In Washington Borough -

WASHINGTON — The exhibit “Close Up on Rock Music of the 1980s,” as photographed and recounted by Cathy Miller, will be featured Jan. 17 to March 21 at Gibson’s Gallery, located inside Gibson’s Gym, 75 East Washington Ave., Washington Borough.
The exhibit features Miller’s 1980s photographs of famed musical artists including Cyndi Lauper, Jon Bon Jovi, Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, Aimee Mann and many others.
Miller, in her artist’s statement, noted, “I preferred clubs like the Dirt Club in Bloomfield and the Meadowbrook in Cedar Grove. There was an edge to the performances, and you never could anticipate what might happen next. We were all looking for the best shots. For me, it was about the faces. I wanted to see and capture the real person behind the music…For a while, I covered the music scene in the New York metro area for Pix International, a Chicago-based photo agency, but for the most part it was just for me. Most publications wanted color slides of the whole band, but I favored black & white and close-ups. Over the years, the excitement of being published, whether in a local fanzine or a national publication, never faded...
“Music clubs today aren’t like they used to be. They book bands that will sell their own tickets, instead of taking a chance on lesser-known acts. Due to the bigger names and tighter reins on the media, photographers are typically allowed to shoot the first three songs of a set, without a flash. Operating under that kind of pressure, professional courtesy has fallen by the wayside and it’s become a matter of everyman for himself. It’s a whole new world and the same old me!”
Among the varied photos in the exhibit is a 1983 image of Cyndi Lauper in concert in Cedar Grove. Miller said of Lauper: “A brash showgirl with a Brooklyn edge, that’s Cyndi on first impression, but when we talked, she was really down to earth. She was relaxing backstage before her show and she was kind enough to share some of her private time with me. She was completely transformed by the time she hit the stage. Cyndi created a sound and a style that was all her own, she was mesmerizing, and a real dynamo. Oh, and great to photograph, too.”
