Cyndi Lauper's first musical-theater score is for the new show Kinky Boots, written with Harvey Fierstein, which will have a pre-Broadway run this fall at the Bank of America Theatre. She'll perform what's being credited as the first single from the show, Sex is in the Heel, which she debuted this past weekend as the grand marshal of New York City's Pride March. (The song got an exclusive premiere last week in a purported remix at Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch blog; we'll trust that the non-remixed version is more theater-appropriate.)
Other performances at the BIC concert will include cast members of Sister Act, Catch Me If You Can, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and appearances by War Horse's equine puppet Joey and Peter Pan's indefatigable Cathy Rigby.

PRE-BROADWAY WORLD PREMIERE!
Oct. 2, 2012- Nov. 4, 2012 - Bank of America Theatre
Inspired by a true story and based on the film, KINKY BOOTS features a warm and witty book by Harvey Fierstein (La Cage, Torch Song Trilogy, Newsies) and a richly diverse musical score from music icon Cyndi Lauper in her stunning theatrical debut. Director Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, La Cage, Broadway Bares) has crafted a production bound to move, inspire and set audience's feet dancing. In KINKY BOOTS, Charlie Price is forced to step in and save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England, following the sudden death of his father. Help comes from the unlikeliest angel, a fabulous drag performer named Lola. Together, this improbable duo revitalizes the failing business, while helping one another grow into the men their fathers always dreamed they would become and transforming an entire community through the power of acceptance.
